Signature Field

A signature field is the marked spot on a document where a signer applies their signature. The term also covers fillable fields like date, initials, and text.

A signature field is a defined area placed on a document that tells the signer exactly where to act. Instead of leaving someone to guess where their name belongs, the document author drops a field onto the page, and the signer taps or clicks that spot to sign. This removes ambiguity from the signing process: a completed document has every required mark in a known, intended location rather than scribbles wherever there happened to be white space.

Signature fields are one type in a broader family of fillable fields. Alongside the main signature box, a document commonly carries an initials field for page-by-page acknowledgment, a date field that records when the signer acted, a name field, and free-text fields for things like a title or address. Each field can be assigned to a specific signer and marked as required or optional, so a two-party agreement can route the right boxes to the right people without anyone touching marks meant for someone else.

On sign.pink, placing fields is meant to be quick and mobile-friendly: you position a signature field where the signature goes, add a date or initials field if the document needs one, and send. Because no account is required for the person signing, the fields themselves do the guiding. The signer opens the document, sees exactly what to fill, and completes it. Every action taken in those fields is captured in the document's tamper-evident audit trail, so the record shows not just that the document was signed but where and when each field was completed.

Examples

  • A lease agreement has a signature field and a date field at the bottom for the tenant, plus an initials field on each page to confirm they read the terms.
  • A contract author assigns one signature field to the client and a separate signature field to the company representative so each party signs only their own line.
  • A consent form includes a required signature field and an optional text field where the signer can add notes before submitting.
